The City of Bayonne Division of Recreation will hold its 3rd Annual Family Pumpkin Derby on Sunday, October 25, at noon at the 1st Street Skate Park, followed by a Halloween Parade and Costume Contest on Saturday, October 31, at noon at 25th Street and Broadway.

In the Pumpkin Derby, participants turn real pumpkins into gravity powered race cars using a kit supplied by the city, which includes 5 inch wheels and axles. Pumpkins are not included and may weigh no more than 20 pounds. Both axles must go through the pumpkin, only kit parts may be used, and motors, batteries, fans, and pushing are not allowed. This year’s derby adds a ramp jump, measuring which pumpkin lands farthest. Trophies will be awarded for Most Creative and Fastest Racer.

There is no age requirement. Registration costs $20, which covers participation and the kit, and is limited to 25 entries. Sign up is available through the City of Bayonne registration portal.
