The 9th Annual James N. Rentas Walk to raise money for cancer research is slated for Sept. 18 at Stephen R. Gregg Hudson County Park.

The event is held by the family of James N. Rentas, a Bayonne resident for 44 years who died Nov. 21, 2007, after battling colorectal cancer “with unfailing optimism and dignity” for more than seven years, a press release stated.

Proceeds from the walk, which is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Kennedy Boulevard and 48th Street, will benefit Dr. Nancy Kemeny’s Pump Research Fund at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The event relies on sponsors to assist in underwriting the cost of the event and to meet its fundraising goal, the release stated. If you would like to learn more about sponsorship opportunities, please visit the walk’s website at www.jnr5kwalk.com.

Over 700 walkers are anticipated at the walk, which will feature a DJ, giveaways and team awards. Participants can register online at the walk’s website.

Registration forms can also be picked up at The Wellness Center located at 11 W. 25th St. Registration will also open at the park on Sept. 18 at 8 a.m.
