Three actors. One act. Five nights.
Jersey City actor Dan Gregory will star in “When the Ripe Fruit Falls,” an off, off-Broadway play centered around an alcoholic grandfather, a granddaughter pursuing her graduate degree, and her blue-collar boyfriend, Tommy, played by Gregory.
Gregory, who grew up in Bayonne and graduated from Kean University in 2007 with a degree in communications, but his post-graduation job in sales didn’t bring him any fulfillment.
With a screen-acting program at New York Film Academy under his belt and training from the famed Stella Adler Acting Studio, Gregory has been in several independent films, web series, shorts and feature films.
He works closely with Narrow Bridge Films — a Bayonne-based film company — and Darklight Films.
Some of his most recent work includes: “Summer Cabin,” “Lucifer,” “Half Past the Color Blue,” and “Yellow Scare,” a comedy that is currently raising funds on IndieGOGO to start filming next year.
“I love the idea of not being myself for a while — it’s like a vacation and I love that,” he said.
This won’t be the 31-year-old’s first time on stage. Last summer he starred in the production of “Grief,” which was also written by James Crafford.
“From start to finish, (live performing) tells a story. You better be prepared because there’s no second take,” he said.
Because every up-and-coming actor needs a day job, Gregory works for the Bayonne Board of Education as a one-on-one assistant to students with special needs. He says he ultimately wants to work on bigger budget films and have a role on a network TV.
Gregory will star alongside playwright James Crafford and Dana Levin in the one-act production.
The show will run from July 29 to Aug. 2 at the Beckmann Theater inside the American Theatre of Actors at 314 West 54th St. in New York City.
Tickets to the show are $20. You can call 212-581-3044 to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Half of the proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project — a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans.
