According to www.tapinto.net Hundreds of people showed up for the May 6 march and opening day ceremonies at the 11 Street ball field, helping to kick off a new season of Buddy Baseball. This is the 7th season for a program that Recreation Director Pete Amadeo lobbied for after Jimmy Davis became Mayor in 2014.
The Buddy Baseball program is for developmentally and physically challenged youth ages 3 to 25. As part of the program, “buddies” assist players according to their needs, whether helping them field a ball in play or pushing a wheelchair around the bases, or simply motivating the players.
When Amadeo took over as Bayonne’s supervisor of recreation, he looked for ways to benefit children with special needs.
