Since the beginnings of the Windmill Day Center in 1985, the Windmill Alliance, Inc. has been dedicated to serving those most in need in our community Windmill serves 2,000 every year combined with our Social Service Program at HIGHWAYS.
Programs include:
The Windmill Center, an adult day training program serving nearly 40 developmentally disabled adults every day
The Supervised Apartments, housing 14 residents with multiple physical and developmental challenges 24/7
HIGHWAYS, a multi-service program providing crisis intervention, emergency food pantry, thrift shop, job training, counseling and life coaching.
The Center is open Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Transportation is provided to and from the Center every day. There is no fee if the participant is referred through the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities. A sliding scale fee applies if privately referred. The Supervised Apartments Program is founded on person-focused values and provides the necessary structure, trainings and support to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. The goal is to promote self-determination, community inclusion and quality of life.
The program has 24-hour supervision by trained staff. Caring staff assists each resident in the areas of self-help, independence, and community living.
H.I.G.H.W.A.Y.S. (Helping Individuals Gain Hope Will Always Yield Success) provides crisis intervention, counseling and supportive employment training, as well as a Thrift Shop, emergency assistance to homeless individuals and families, and emergency food bank. H.I.G.H.W.A.Y.S. is sustained by the work of many dedicated volunteers. H.I.G.H.W.A.Y.S. coordinates the community’s emergency food bank, and assists various homeless shelters, and a battered women’s shelter with furniture and supplies to support new beginnings. The Thrift Shop offers low cost items such as clothing, books, toys, home goods, and furniture.
And you can help to help others! Donate new or gently used furniture, household items, clothing and toys; volunteer in the thrift store; or become a job coach or mentor. Please also remember the holidays, and share by donating turkeys and food items for holiday food baskets. In addition, H.I.G.H.W.A.Y.S. provides individual services that focus on concrete assistance and counseling to address barriers to self-sufficiency.
